I also have an 8 yr old American Eskimo that before the raw meat had such bad arthritis in his hips there were many days he couldn't even stand. He couldn't run or jump. We were going to put him to sleep. The raw was our last chance. The money for the Derramax was astounding and didn't even work, he was in horrible pain. He hasn't had any Derramax in months, he walks, runs and jumps and acts like a young dog again. He is pain free and happy.

I have a collie that has been on the raw meat since she was 2 months old. The vet says he hasn't seen a dog that healthy in at least 15 years. Everyone wants to know what I feed her to make her look so gorgeous. They want their dog to look that wonderful.

All the dogs have amazingly clean teeth and no bad breath. My golden won't even eat cooked food anymore. Not even cooked meat. People are amazed when they try to feed him turkey, etc. and he refuses it. What I have saved in medicine and vet bills, more than makes up for any cost of the raw meat. I have not experienced an increase in cost; I actually save $1.19/day feeding raw as opposed to feeding kibble. Not to mention the emotional expense of watching my dogs suffer. Seeing all that suffering end is worth more than money can buy.

With 8 years' experience as a washed-up Cascades climber trekking and climbing the Washington Cascades with an idefatigable Welsh corgi, climbing 8,000+' peaks and challenging cross-country routes, I'd say the Vital Essentials 100% raw freeze-dried nibblets is my favorite backcountry dog food.  Low-odor and low crumbs, and this is important since dog food is basically bear bait.  Easy to dispense, doesn't crumble easily.  LIghtweight. Nice product.  Backpackers and climbers are demanding gear freaks.  Contact REI and tell them I sent you.  Really; lots of backpackers hike with their dogs, and this is an excellent low-weight freeze-dried product.
