dog asleep in a chair the night before christmas

❄ 12 Days of Christmas–DAY 12 ❄

‘Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the home
Not a creature was stirring, not even for VE RAW bones;
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that Santa Paws soon would be there;
The kitties were nestled all snug in their beds;
While visions of Salmon Skins danced in their heads;
And mamma in her jammies, and I in my chair,
Had just settled in amongst the dogs there.
When out on the lawn there arose such a sound,
The dogs jumped from their bed in a single bound.
Up to the door they flew with a bark,
As excited as if I had said “dog park.”
The yard was filled with freshly fallen snow
But what was that sound? We just had to know.
When what to my wondering eyes did I find,
But a miniature sleigh and eight furry canines,
With the sound of the scratching of their little claws
I knew in a moment it must be Santa Paws.
More rapid than frisbees his puppers they came,
And he whistled, and clapped, and called them by name:
“Now, Bella! now, Buster! now Charley and Daisy!
On, Cooper! on, Bailey! on, Max and Maisie!
To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!
Now dash away! dash away! dash away all!”
As fast as a squirrel being chased they did fly,
Higher and higher, straight up to the sky;
Up on the housetop the canines they flew
With the sleigh full of raw treats, and Santa Paws too—
And then I heard a sound so divine
The prancing and howling of each canine.
As I drew in my head, and was turning around,
Down the chimney Santa Paws came with a single bound.
He was dressed all in red, from his head to his toes,
And his hands held packages tied up in bows
A bundle of treats he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a dog handler feeding his pack.
Duck Heads and Minnows and Rabbit Bite Treats
A selection of my pets’ favorite meats
More booming than fireworks his laugh came with a start
As he reached into his bag and pulled out Chicken Hearts
He had a kind face and a bright smile
That stretched when he laughed, as wide as a mile.
He was chubby and plump, as the leader of elves,
And the cats purred when they saw him, in spite of themselves;
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head
Soon he was on his knees by the kitty’s bed;
He spoke not a word, but went forward with treats
To feed the kitties and doggies their favorite eats
He filled all the stockings with VE RAW BAR
Ensuring snacks were never far
And then with a wink and a twitch of his nose,
He gave a quick nod, and up the chimney he rose
He sprang to his sleigh, to his dogs gave a whistle,
And away they all flew as fast as a missile.
But I heard him exclaim, as they drove out of sight—
Vital Essentials to all, and to all a good night!”
