Carnivore Meat Company, the parent company of Vital Essentials, today announced the results of persistent efforts to reduce its carbon footprint and contribute to global sustainability efforts. In partnering with Green Bay Packaging, the company has moved to 100% corrugated boxes made from recycled fiber, resulting in a 51% reduction in greenhouse gasses, which is equivalent to 290 fewer cars on the road per year. 

Carnivore Meat Company knows that consumers want to buy from a company that cares about its environmental footprint. According to a 

 60% of respondents said they’d pay more for sustainable packaging products.  

“We’re seeing an increasing trend in consumer behavior to buy from and support companies that care about their environmental impact,” said Steve Marcelle, senior supply chain manager at Carnivore Meat Company. “Beyond packaging, consumers want to know their pet’s food is sourced sustainably. In addition to focusing on more sustainable packaging, we’re continuing to focus on working with suppliers that can sustainably source their products. All in all, we’re making numerous efforts to reduce our carbon footprint.” 

This sustainability initiative follows a recent rollout of new packaging from the company’s flagship brand, Vital Essentials, at last month’s Global Pet Expo in Orlando, FL.

Vital Essentials Announces Strategic Partnership with Wilson & Associates for Western Sales Expansion

Green Bay WI, August 16, 2019 - Products in the Vital Essentials® line will be undergoing some changes, advancing sustainability initiatives to significantly reduce the total volume of packaging material consumed in daily manufacturing operations.  The efforts to reduce the overall volume of packaging material will span across all of the rapidly growing brands - <a href="https://www.vitalessentialsraw.com/dog/all-dog-products/" target="_blank" linktype="url">Vital Essentials®</a>, VE RAW BAR and <a href="https://www.vitalessentialsraw.com/cat/all-cat-products/" target="_blank" linktype="url">Vital Cat™</a>, which are sold at more than 6,000 independent pet specialty <a href="https://www.vitalessentialsraw.com/where-to-buy/" target="_blank" linktype="url">retailers</a> in the US, online at Chewy.com and Amazon, and in 14 international markets across the globe. The first phase will take effect on October 1, 2019 with new product packaging and shipping materials used for the company’s <a href="https://www.vitalessentialsraw.com/dog/treats-snacks/" target="_blank" linktype="url">VE RAW BAR</a> freeze-dried snacks for cats and dogs.  “New product packaging will reduce the amount of plastic usage by 15%,” stated Brian Lakari, VP Operations. In conjunction with this change, master shipping cases will be converted to 100% recycled cardboard.  Case configurations are also being adjusted to increase pack density, reducing overall box usage by 30% per year.  “Taking into account our rapidly ascending sales trajectory, the impacts of decisions we make today will be even greater into the future as we continue to grow,” commented Lakari. This is good news for the company’s distribution center as well as their national and international distributors.  These changes will decrease the warehouse space required by one-third for each VE RAW BAR product warehoused. “We’re looking at making incremental changes across the company so we can be better stewards of our resources and at the same time, reduce our overall impact on the environment,” said <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/lannyviegut/" target="_blank" linktype="url">Lanny Viegut</a>, CEO and Owner.  “We continue to challenge our team to get better and be better.  Our hope is that these measures will aid in offsetting rising costs in other areas of our business.”
